PLA coated paper cups are also said to be an alternative to plastic coated paper cups. But in terms of recycling and carbon footprint, Aqueous based bio cups are easier to recycle and Aqueous based paper cups have Lower Carbon emissions than PLA.
Aqueous based, that is Water based bio cup is a new technology which is not only fully recyclable but also re-pulpable.
In Performance, Aqueous based bio cups are much more resistant to moisture and provides a guaranteed leak proof consumption from bio cup.
As per the research conducted in dissociation test of paper sheet, PLA coated paper cups left residual flakes whereas Aqueous based bio cups left no debris.
Additionally, To compose PLA coated paper cups, industrial composting treatment is required that is not available everywhere. But whereas Aqueous based bio cups are home compostable.
